'Once Zhuangzi dreamt he was a butterfly, a butterfly flitting and fluttering around, happy with himself and doing as he pleased. He didn't know he was Zhuangzi. Suddenly he woke up and there he was, solid and unmistakable Zhuangzi. But he didn't know if he was Zhuangzi who had dreamt he was a butterfly, or a butterfly dreaming he was Zhuangzi.' (4th Century, China)

In this piece we observe the artist in deep sleep. Through a magnifying glass attached to the front of the screen we can see into the sleeper's forehead and view his dream of a butterfly-like book. When the dreamer opens his eyes, the creature takes flight from under the dome and leaves the screen; only to reemerge from within the artist's mind when he returns to sleep.
